COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Polar Plunge will be held on Saturday, March 22 at Columbia Point Marina in Richland and supports Special Olympics Tri-Cities as the state marks 50 years of the program — registration begins at 10 a.m. on event day.  Apple Valley News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A restroom at Two Rivers Park in Benton County caught fire early Thursday at 2:24 a.m.—fire crews quickly put out the flames and deputies found no one inside as investigators check the cause that appears to have started outside.  NBC Tri-Cities

CRIME NEWS

  • A Benton County jury in Kennewick convicted Anthony Spearman of murdering Leonard Slack Jr., a 65 year old man shot near Hawthorne Elementary—and he is set to be sentenced on March 20 after an eight day trial.  NBC Tri-Cities

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Columbia Basin College submitted a request for $54 million to design and build a new arts building that will replace its aging P Building if state lawmakers approve funding. The college now awaits House and Senate budget talks — its enrollment has grown to over 8,500 students.  Tri-Cities Business News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Less than a decade after a major renovation, the Tri-Cities Airport terminal is set to begin an $11 million upgrade that will expand the baggage area, add a boarding door at Gate 2, and renovate Gate 5 with work scheduled to finish in 2026. The expansion—part of a four-phase plan costing up to $145 million over the next ten years—is planned by the Port of Pasco to meet growing passenger demand and new federal guidelines with contractor awards expected by April.  Tri-Cities Business News
  • Kennewick officials announced that the city will break ground on the Three Rivers Convention Center expansion after the March 22 hockey game final following a unanimous City Council vote on a $71.3 million budget funded with bonds + local government funds. The expansion will add a 60,000-square-foot exhibit hall, extra meeting rooms, and a new kitchen, and it is set to open in fall 2026.  Tri-Cities Business News
  • Roadwork has begun at Quinault Avenue and Columbia Center Boulevard in Kennewick, and drivers on this busy 24,000-a-day route should expect delays during construction. The $1.6 million project, contracted to Apollo Inc., will add a left turn lane, dedicated through and right turn lanes, and new signals, ADA ramps, lighting, storm drains, curbs and sidewalks during work hours from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and 8 p.m.-4 a.m.  NBC Tri-Cities

HEALTH NEWS

  • The PC expanded its facilities at 1350 N. Grant St.—adding new treatment rooms, fitness studios, and a children’s wing to grow its medical, regenerative and diagnostic services. The $600,000 project is set to finish in March 2025 and will improve spaces for movement, recovery and early health education.  Tri-Cities Business News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Construction on The Falls, a 133,000-square-foot mixed-use development at 4112 W. 24th Ave in the Southridge area, is complete and features three modern buildings with 105 residential units, retail space, and climate-controlled storage.
