ECONOMY NEWS

  • On March 26th, the Port of Kennewick received the Economic Development Award for Economic Response and Recovery from the Washington Economic Development Association for its work on the Historic Waterfront District. The multi-year project — a collaboration with local partners including the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the City of Kennewick — transformed Clover Island and Columbia Gardens by creating a stable shoreline with public artwork, recreational amenities, and new business opportunities while offering nine additional waterfront parcels for private development.  FOX 41 Yakima

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from the Kennewick School District competed in the Destination Imagination State Tournament on March 22 and earned four spots in the Global Finals in Kansas City on May 22—teams include The Sussy Pickles, Extraordinary Sushi Boba Team, The Lobos are Back, and The PAWpular Princess. Their performance in various STEAM challenges showed strong creativity and problem-solving skills.  NBC Tri-Cities

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers in Kennewick are advised to avoid the 27th Ave and Union St traffic circle as street work is scheduled from April 1 to April 3 — flaggers will be on site to help direct traffic — and the work is weather dependent.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • Kennewick’s Transportation Benefit District announced that a 0.1% sales tax increase will start April 1, adding one cent to every $10 purchase and generating about $3 million a year to fund transportation projects. The funds will pay for pavement preservation and improvements planned in the city’s long-range transportation plans over up to 10 years.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • Kennewick’s Transportation Benefit District will begin a 0.1% sales tax increase on April 1 to raise about $3 million each year for local transportation projects. The tax will add one cent to every $10 purchase and fund work on pavement preservation and other improvements outlined in the city's Transportation System Plan—Six-Year Transportation Improvement Program.  NBC Tri-Cities
