CRIME NEWS

  • Kennewick police arrested suspect Dexon Rex on Tuesday after a two-hour standoff at an apartment near 100 North Irving Place off Clearwater Ave when he allegedly threatened his neighbor—officers received help from the Tri-City Regional SWAT Team and no one was hurt.  The KEY
  • A man was arrested on April 1 in Kennewick after he threatened his neighbor at Irving Place Apartments, evaded officers until he released his dog, and was booked for felony harassment and two warrants (no force was used) at Benton County Jail.  NBC Tri-Cities

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Kennewick School District refinanced $37.41 million in bonds from 2015 to save over $4.3 million in taxpayer money over nine years. The refinancing, set to mature in 2034, will cut costs by $524,750 next year — a move to lower future spending.  KONA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A decade of reports shows honey bee hives losing up to 30-50% of workers, leaving behind queens and young bees. Scientists say pesticides, mites & poor nutrition are weakening these vital pollinators, which could make food crops like almonds, apples and coffee scarcer and more expensive.  NewsTalk 870

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study by the University of Arizona found that patients at Sea Mar Community Health Centers who received help from patient navigators after abnormal stool tests were 12% more likely to complete a colonoscopy and had their procedures done 27 days sooner than those given usual care. Patients with navigator support had a follow-up rate of 55% compared to 43%—and were seven times less likely to die from delayed treatment—showing the benefit of personalized guidance.  FOX 41 Yakima
