  • Reports show that off-duty WSP trooper Clasen, a 13-year veteran of the Washington State Patrol, and her husband spent four hours at Moon Palace, a Chinese restaurant and bar near Uptown Shopping Center in Richland before a fatal crash occurred on April 2; police report the investigation is ongoing.  NBC Tri-Cities

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A Montana-based company Local Bounti saw its sales jump by 38% to $38.1 million when its Texas and Pasco facilities began shipping products in the second quarter of 2024 (profit margins stayed steady and most costs dropped with more research spending).   • At around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Kennewick police tried to stop two minibike riders on Clearwater Ave when one rider, riding without a helmet or lights, sped away, crashed into a curb, and was taken to a local hospital—his condition is not known.  KONA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Columbia Basin College held its Self-Awareness Sweets event for World Autism Awareness Day—organized with Disability Support Services and the Cultural Appreciation and Student Advocacy Group—to offer candy and brochures with self-advocacy tips to students. Accessibility specialist Nancy Peterson said the event focused on mutual support and announced a documentary presentation set for April 16th—designed to highlight the history of the disability civil rights movement in America.  NBC Tri-Cities

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Senate Bill 5284 will require companies to pay for recycling instead of taxpayers—this change may alter how waste is handled across Washington. Lawmakers and business groups will debate the measure as residents call for a more effective recycling system.  NewsTalk 870

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The United States Postal Service started a ten-year plan that invests $135 million in Washington facilities and showed updates at the Pasco Sorting and Delivering Center on Wednesday. The upgrades include new vehicles, 11 sorting machines and facility improvements (Delivering for America), with plans to build 12 new centers (and update 98 facilities) to speed up mail and package delivery.  The KEY
