COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society is hosting its monthly bird-watching event at Bateman Island—this event occurs on the first Saturday of each month and the next walk is scheduled for tomorrow. Birders will gather at 7:45 a.m.—the guided walk will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 11:00 a.m., providing advice on using binoculars and maintaining a safe distance from birds.  NBC Tri-Cities

CRIME NEWS

  • On Tuesday at around 6:22 p.m., a 35-year-old woman allegedly under the influence drove in the wrong lane on Cable Bridge and collided head-on with one vehicle before hitting a third, causing backups that cleared by 7:30 p.m. (one driver was treated for minor injuries) while she was booked in Franklin County for DUI.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Kennewick police arrested Kenneth Troy Couch on suspicion of assault and unlawful imprisonment after deputies responded just before 2 p.m. on April 1 to a weapons complaint on the 106000 block of West King Tull Road and North Pioneer Road — a Benton County Sheriff’s Office employee had called for help amid a domestic dispute.  Apple Valley News Now

  • Small business owners in the Tri-Cities are invited to the Bridging Partnerships Small Business Symposium on April 9-10 at Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick to explore new contracting opportunities that connect Hanford cleanup work with emerging advanced energy projects—an initiative partnering with the Energy Forward Alliance, Clean Energy Supplier Alliance, and the Hanford Small Business Council to spotlight projects like the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub and Atlas Agro’s Pacific Green Fertilizer Plant.   • The Washington State Department of Agriculture is resuming treatments for invasive Japanese beetles in Mid-Columbia, including Grandview, Mabton, Wapato, Prosser, Sunnyside and Pasco. Certified pesticide applicator TruGreen will treat over 17,000 properties once homeowners grant permission and the safe chemicals protect plants and lawns.  The KEY

  • Pipeline safety staff with the Washington Utilities & Transportation Commission recommended Cascade Natural Gas pay nearly $5.7 million for 66 alleged pipeline safety violations linked to a fatal fire in Toppenish on Sept. 22nd. The company said it is reviewing the allegations and the commission will review the evidence before making a final decision.  Tri-Cities Business News
  • The City of Kennewick announced today that its annual herbicide application for noxious weed control is expected to start around April 9 and is weather-dependent. Vehicles will spray curb lines and gravel shoulders on main roads, and the herbicide is mixed with dye to guide application while drying in 30 minutes so that pets and children can safely return.  Apple Valley News Now
