  • Columbia Basin Youth Football is a nonprofit league that has added a girls flag football division to help remove enrollment fees for kindergarten to eighth grade players (+ a move meant to make the sport more accessible). The organization will host a live auction and dinner event at Zintel Creek Golf Club on May 2, and a golf tournament on May 3 (+ offering over $250,000 in hole-in-one prizes to help reach a $125,000 goal).  FOX 41 Yakima
  • Domestic Violence Services of Benton and Franklin Counties launched the 'Furnishing Hope' campaign on April 15 to raise money for fully furnishing 10 safe housing units for survivors of domestic violence and their children. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be scheduled—community members, businesses and organizations are invited to support the effort with donations or room sponsorships.  Apple Valley News Now

  • Kennewick Fire Department and Pasco Fire Department are responding to a residential structure fire near West 4th Place and South Quincy Street — Quincy Street from West 4th to West 5th is closed and residents are asked to avoid the area as smoke rises from the building.  NBC Tri-Cities

  • Benton REA sold its PowerNET internet service for $110,000 to Yakima-based Advanced High Speed Internet, which has served about 1,000 rural and underserved users since 1997. The sale will let Benton REA focus solely on providing safe, reliable electrical services (as noted by CEO Ryan Redmond).  Tri-Cities Business News

  • Authorities arrested 41-year-old Dustin H Shearer on April 1st in Grant County after a nearly year-long investigation into the fentanyl overdose death of a 35-year-old man found in August last year; he currently faces Controlled Substance Homicide charges (bail set at $100,500).  NewsTalk 870

  • U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse said the Pacific Northwest will use its strong hydropower from the Columbia River Basin and local heavy industry to build a hydrogen hub that can create jobs, provide carbon-free energy for hard-to-abate sectors, and boost economic growth. HEALTH NEWS

  • The city of Kennewick found low levels of PFOS—16.7 parts per trillion—that are just above the state limit of 15 parts per trillion in the Ranney Collector water supply. City officials are working with engineers to design and install a treatment system that will remove the PFAS chemicals and be ready by April 2028.  NBC Tri-Cities
