CRIME NEWS

  • On Friday evening, a pedestrian was hit by a car along Dallas Road near Goose Gap and taken to a local hospital while authorities say the driver fled the scene—deputies later arrested the suspect on charges of vehicular assault, hit-and-run with injury and false reporting.  Apple Valley News Now
  • A heavily intoxicated driver hit a pedestrian along Dallas Road near Goose Gap Road late Friday night, dumped his car, and reported it stolen; deputies arrested him on charges of Vehicular Assault, Hit-and-Run, and False Reporting after a tip led them to the vehicle found by an irrigation canal road — the pedestrian was not seriously injured and was taken to a nearby hospital.  The KEY
  • A man speeding over 120 mph hit a car in Kennewick—sending one person to hospital—and the driver in custody faced DUI and reckless driving charges.  NBC Tri-Cities

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today marks the opening of filing week for elected offices across Washington as municipal races fill the ballot in cities including Kennewick, Pasco and Richland. Local residents can file to run for city council, school board or port positions and must meet residency rules and fee requirements—school board roles do not have fees.  The KEY

HEALTH NEWS

  • An experimental drug called lorundrostat lowered systolic blood pressure by 15 points compared to 7 for a placebo in a Phase II trial that involved 285 patients with resistant hypertension on May 5. Researchers will begin a larger Phase III trial as the drug stops aldosterone production and may help patients who did not respond to other medications — a finding that could offer a new option for treating high blood pressure.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Company announced a recall of its Dark Chocolate Covered Macadamias in Washington due to the possible presence of undeclared almonds or cashews. The recall affects both 0.6oz and 4oz packages—customers can return these items for a refund.  KONA
