  • Three 8-week-old kittens named Marion, Boysen & Lingon are now available at Tri-Cities Animal Services in Pasco, where they come with vaccinations and spaying once adopted. The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm with a $50 fee.  The KEY

  • Roza Irrigation District announced a 10-day canal shutdown to conserve water rights for later use; farmers from Yakima to Benton City are using backup measures (like drip irrigation and re-regulating ponds) to secure their crops.  NBC Tri-Cities

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On May 22, firefighters contained a vegetation brush fire at Riverside Park near Highway 397 in Pasco while establishing a fireline to limit the spread. The teams reported no injuries and said the fire, believed to be human-caused, may burn up to 7 acres before it burns out.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Snowfall in the Blue Mountains ended three weeks earlier than normal as of May 21, causing reservoir levels in the Umatilla-Walla-Walla-Willow Basin to drop faster than expected.   • Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco is moving ahead with $2.7 million FAA funding to add three new jet bridges, expand passenger doors from five to seven, and triple its baggage makeup area—efforts aimed at boosting travel efficiency as part of a decade-long redevelopment plan. HEALTH NEWS

  • Benton County officials offer free virtual teletherapy for residents ages 8 to 29 to ease long wait times; seven-day appointments are funded by a $50,000 health tax + the Columbia Valley Center for Recovery in Kennewick, following an Apr. 17 ribbon-cutting, awaits state licensing for a May 1 opening.  Apple Valley News Now
