  • The Coyote Canyon Mammoth Site in Kennewick is inviting volunteers to aid in ongoing research and public education on a Columbian mammoth uncovered from an Ice Age flood 17,000 years ago. Volunteers may serve as a Dig House Manager, Store Manager, Volunteer Coordinator, Site Volunteer or Education Assistant—training is provided on site for adults and high school youths with an adult, and interested persons can contact Gary Kleinknecht at (509)438-9417.  FOX 41 Yakima

  • Cuba Libre is a food truck that offers authentic Cuban food at 7425 West Clearwater Avenue—owner Rafael Najarro Romero said his wife serves as the main chef while their four children help out; it opened in May and has quickly won support from local diners.  NBC Tri-Cities

CRIME NEWS

  • Two convicted murderers who fatally stabbed Kennewick middle school coach and teacher Bob Mars in 2004 during a gang initiation are now petitioning Washington State for early prison release—one has a hearing set for July 16, a community concern hearing is scheduled for June 23, and the other has a hearing set for February next year.  The KEY
  • A Kennewick middle school was locked down Wednesday morning after police responded to a FaceTime call reporting that a man had allegedly threatened his wife with a gun — he was later arrested on charges of felony harassment, unlawful firearm possession and driving with a suspended license.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Early this morning, a Kennewick officer tried to pull over a BMW for an equipment violation near W 1st Avenue and S Benton Street when the driver did not stop and the car jumped the canal—a distance of 40 to 60 feet—landing on the far side; police seized the vehicle as part of an ongoing investigation while the two people fled the scene.  The KEY

  • Local musician Faith Martin will perform with duo partner Bobby Nelsen at Dalset Wines in Benton City on June 29th from 2-4 PM to support mental health awareness during Mental Health Awareness Month—she credits her long friendship with winemaker Evan and co-owner Krischen for inspiring the event's community focus.  NewsTalk 870
