ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Authorities reported yesterday that a collision blocked northbound lanes on N Yelm Street from W Kennewick Ave to W Clearwater Ave—police and fire personnel managed the scene and advised drivers to use alternative routes.  FOX 41 Yakima

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Michaels announced on June 5 that it bought Joann’s brands and intellectual property for its fabric, sewing and yarn lines—even though it did not buy the physical stores, which closed on May 31, including the one at Columbia Center Mall in Kennewick. The company aims to add over 600 new products to more than 800 stores as it works to attract former Joann’s shoppers.  KONA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Pasco High graduation, Principal Veronica Machado began her address in Spanish (a choice meant to honor the school’s largely Hispanic student body) but one graduate objected that the speech should have been in English. The school said it would speak with the student and family while holding the diploma until a resolution is reached.  NewsTalk 870

  • From June 19-22, over 400 pickleball players will gather at the new courts in Kennewick Park for the 2025 Summer Classic hosted by Club 509— the largest outdoor competition event in WA state this year, featuring team, duo and age group contests that will draw many spectators.  KONA
