COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Young entrepreneurs showed off their skills at the Hub's Kids Market in Kennewick, where 12 small businesses offered items like plants and Play Doh kits to the community. Executive Director Samantha Schuster said the event helps kids learn business basics + she plans to hold the market four times a year to give more children a chance to sell their work.  NBC Tri-Cities

BUSINESS NEWS

  • After 17 years at 3200 Clearwater Ave.—Sterling’s is searching for a new, larger location in Kennewick to meet its growing needs. The restaurant will remain open until the property sells and its staff are reassigned to other local Sterling’s locations, with plans also hinting at potential expansion in Pasco.  Tri-Cities Business News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Temperatures soared to between 100 and 105°F on Sunday under a strong high pressure system, causing hot, dry, and breezy conditions across the Lower Columbia Basin, including Kennewick. Winds gusted up to 40 mph, raising fire risks, and the Heat Advisory remained in effect through Monday.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Environmental and energy groups filed a legal challenge against Bonneville Power Administration's plan to join a new energy market, saying its own study shows the move will raise consumer costs and weaken grid reliability—groups claim the decision violates BPA's duty to both consumers and the environment.  Tri-Cities Business News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Richland plans to boost renewable energy by authorizing a letter of intent with Energy Northwest & securing 5-15 megawatts of power from the Ruby Flats Solar Project, with the council set to vote on the resolution on July 15. A draft Power Purchase Agreement is expected in the third quarter & final agreements will be reached by September 30, while the project is scheduled to start operations by December 31, 2028 and a Reservation Premium of up to $75,000 is due within 45 days of signing.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • Kennewick officials announced that major road improvements will begin this summer with daytime paving on Edison St. starting July 15 and nighttime work on Clearwater and Quinault Aves beginning late July. Lane closures will cause delays, though driveways and side streets will remain accessible — local updates will be provided one day before work starts in each area until the project is completed by the end of August.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Richland City Council is set to approve a resolution that extends deadlines for Beef Expansion LLC to submit permit applications and begin construction at Horn Rapids Industrial Park — the new deadlines move permit applications to July 6 and construction to January 4. The company agreed to a refundable $100,000 fee that will be forfeited if it fails to meet the deadlines.  NBC Tri-Cities
