COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local West Richland business is hosting a fundraising event today at its garage on Kennedy Road—offering $100 oil changes and vouchers to raise funds for Trevin Hansen, who was severely burned in a July 4 fire. The shop will donate all proceeds to help with Hansen's ongoing medical care.  Apple Valley News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On July 25, Benton County Fire District #1 responded at 8:45 p.m. to a fire near Owens Rd between Hwy 397 and Bateman Rd that grew from 20 to 25 acres and threatened wind turbines—witnesses reported potential target shooting as the cause while the sheriff's office investigates.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • A grass fire on E. 23rd Ave is burning fencing and yard debris at a Kennewick residence and its shed, and fire crews are working to contain the blaze.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • A fire near 397 grew from 20 to 25 acres and threatened wind turbines off Owens Rd between Hwy 397 and Bateman Rd—fire crews remain on scene for mop up while investigators review reports that target shooting may have sparked the blaze.  NBC Tri-Cities

CRIME NEWS

  • Richland Police responded early Friday to two domestic violence incidents — one where a woman said Joshua Mendoza threatened her by pulling a gun and damaging her car while trying to break in, and another where a suspect struck an officer in the neck before being tased and arrested.  KONA
  • A Kennewick man named Tanner Morton, 33, was arrested on July 23 for breaking into a home and assaulting a person under a restraining order—police later located him at a business on Clearwater Avenue and charged him with first-degree burglary and violating the order.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Richland Police responded early Friday when a man named Joshua Mendoza reportedly followed a woman, pulled a gun and damaged her car at Duportail and Keene Road before his vehicle was found near an apartment and he was booked on domestic violence charges + later a suspect in the 1100 block of Thayer struck an officer in the neck with a martial arts move before being subdued with a Taser and now faces charges for domestic violence and assault on an officer.  The KEY
