- ➤ On Monday, July 28th, a 71-year-old Kennewick woman, Daphne Rothfork, was struck by a vehicle while crossing 27th Avenue near Tacoma Street—she was pronounced dead at the scene despite CPR from a passerby and a police commander. FOX 41 Yakima
- ➤ On Sunday morning, July 27, firefighters responded to a large house fire on south Myrtle Street east of Kennewick — the incident forced the evacuation of the homeowner and rescued a dog while fire officials and Benton County deputies began investigating the cause. Apple Valley News Now

- ➤ Pasco Police arrested Johnathon Villegas in Pendleton—charged with second-degree murder—for the shooting death of Lupita Ponce-Penaloza on July 23rd in an accessory dwelling unit near Marie and 20th in Pasco, and the investigation remains open. The KEY
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On July 28, 1996, college students Will Thomas and David Deacy discovered the ancient remains of Kennewick Man along the Columbia River. The remains, determined to be 8,400 to 8,690 years old and later reburied in February 2017 according to tribal traditions, sparked years of scientific and legal controversy. NBC Tri-Cities
