- ➤ Several aircraft and dozens of ground units are fighting the Sales Yard Fire east of Prosser — smoke from the blaze has closed State Route 221 from milepost 26 to milepost 17 with a detour for northbound traffic — officials said. KEPR TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ More than 100 local governments are now eligible to claim their share of $122.2 million from opioid settlements with Purdue Pharma and eight generic manufacturers, announced by the attorney general’s office on July 28. The settlements will be paid over 15 years with much of the funding in the first three years—local governments must sign up for the Purdue Pharma settlement by Sept. 30 to secure their portion. - ➤ A package of 333 new Washington laws will go into effect on August 1, covering expanded employment protections, limits on local parking mandates, rent increase controls, and a state transportation inflation adjustment—some measures also require religious leaders to report child abuse. The KEY
