- ➤ Overnight, Benton County deputies responded to several incidents: a woman in a dark sedan lost control and drove into an irrigation canal; an off-road ATV went off a 30 foot cliff near SR 397 and Bofer Canyon Road, sending two people to a hospital; and a mini-bike rider tried to flee a traffic stop and now faces multiple charges — all cases are under investigation. - ➤ A routine traffic stop at 10th Avenue and Osborne Street in Kennewick on Thursday afternoon escalated when a driver speeding at 52 mph in a 35 mph zone ignored commands and left his car—triggering a struggle before he was arrested, checked at a hospital, and booked into Benton County Jail. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Washington law requires all vehicles—especially trucks—to have splash guards covering the full width of their rear tires to stop debris from hitting other vehicles. Motor vehicles that are 40 years or older or used as collectors during fair weather are exempt, so drivers should check their setups to avoid a potential ticket. NewsTalk 870
- ➤ In April, the Washington State Patrol and Department of Transportation launched a work zone speed camera program to address speeding in areas west of the Cascade Mountains; in its first 90 days, the program recorded 7,599 infractions with 3,968 still under process.
