ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two men were hospitalized after riding an ATV off a 30-foot cliff near Bofer Canyon Road on State Route 397 on July 30—eyewitnesses said neither wore a helmet and one suffered compound fractures on both arms—prompting a rapid response from deputies and fire officials.  Apple Valley News Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • JCPenney will sell its Kennewick Columbia Center Mall store—along with locations in Bellingham and Tukwila—as part of a 119-store sale valued at $947 million that will close on or before September 8. Money from the sale will go to JCPenney creditors as the company reshapes its operations after emerging from bankruptcy.  NewsTalk 870
  • Alaska Airlines will begin daily non-stop flights from Pasco to Burbank on October 26—using a 76-seat Embraer 175 to serve popular travel areas after Avelo Airlines suspended western service.   • Franklin County law enforcement used advanced DNA technology to reopen the 1997 murder of 13-year-old Anna Pelayo—authorities now focus on 51-year-old Jesse Castillo, who remains in jail while another suspect died in 2018.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Andrew Acton, 40, was arrested Thursday afternoon near 10th Avenue and Osborne Street after a traffic stop for speeding turned violent when he refused to remain in his car—police said a struggle ensued and he now faces charges for obstructing a public servant and resisting arrest.  Apple Valley News Now

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Developers of the 55-acre Osprey Pointe waterfront project in Pasco expect the project to receive final approval from the Port of Pasco within the next month—potentially allowing construction to begin before the end of 2025.
