CULTURE NEWS

  • Richland will mark the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Japan with two events in town. On Friday, August 8, the REACH Museum will host a Messages of Peace program with community activities plus ranger programs at 12:00 and 2:00, and on Saturday, August 9, a free Lights for Peace event will feature music, a guest speaker and a peace bell at the Fingernail Stage in Howard Amon Park.  FOX 41 Yakima

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Benton County voters will decide on renewing a levy for fire and EMS services on August 5 that will cost less than $5 per month for a homeowner — the funds will hire three full-time firefighter/EMTs, purchase key equipment and renovate a fire station. Voters will also choose candidates for various city council and school district races.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • The city of Richland will close the westbound lane of the roundabout at Swift Boulevard and Wright Avenue today through Aug. 15 as part of a traffic project—detour signs will help guide drivers during the work.  Tri-Cities Business News
