GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A Kennewick RV park owned by Deer Point Meadows Investments, LLC was fined $2,000 after it raised rents following Washington’s new rent control law that took effect May 7—its excess charges were refunded to tenants, and seven other landlords statewide received similar fines. The KEY
- ➤ Kennewick Police and first responders held an active shooter training exercise at a local school on August 7 to prepare for potential incidents+ they coordinated with the Kennewick School District and other agencies to improve school safety. Apple Valley News Now
- ➤ Pasco Mayor Pete Serrano is under consideration to be appointed as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington—if confirmed by the Senate amid partisan negotiations, he will leave his mayoral and council roles. The KEY
- ➤ Effective August 10, Peter Sarrano will step down as Pasco Mayor and councilmember to serve as Interim U.S. Attorney for Eastern Washington.
