  • Kennewick couple Jeffrey and Mary Johnson received a free HVAC unit after their 47-year-old system failed during a hot spell, and temporary repairs left them struggling with the heat—Jeffrey had been hospitalized earlier this summer for heatstroke linked to a liver condition. Tri-CU Credit Union and Campbell & Company launched the donation program to continue helping families in need.  Apple Valley News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Kennewick police arrested Derrick Morgan on burglary charges after he allegedly cut the lock to a storage unit at Zintel Canyon Golf Course at 7:40 a.m. on August 9 and stole $60 and a Bluetooth speaker — an employee later recognized him at a nearby store and alerted officers.  Apple Valley News Now
  • A 40-year-old driver was arrested for vehicular homicide after crashing into a 66-year-old pedestrian who died in the 1800 block of George Washington Way on Sunday night — the driver was booked into Benton County Jail after being found to be driving under the influence — police are asking anyone with information to come forward.  NewsTalk 870
  • Benton County Deputies arrested two suspects on Sunday night after one jumped into the Yakima River near Benton City and hid in seaweed while the other tried to escape by running down a ravine near Finley—both were captured without incident.  KONA
  • Police arrested a 40-year-old driver for vehicular homicide after a fatal crash on George Washington Way, where a 66-year-old pedestrian died — officers noted he was intoxicated at the scene.  Apple Valley News Now

  • Washington State Department of Agriculture deployed detection bags in Columbia Park and around the Tri-Cities to trap Japanese beetles using floral scents and pheromones — residents are asked not to disturb them.  KONA
