  • Portland General Electric and Mitsubishi Power canceled their hydrogen production project near Boardman after a key partner exited and tough economics made the plan unfeasible—challenging the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub as local developers plan projects that rely on renewable power. Atlas Agro and AltaGas are moving forward with alternatives that may bring green energy jobs to the region.  Tri-Cities Business News

CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested 18 year old Samuel Escamilla—who was found with a loaded Glock handgun—and 45 year old Alvin Guajardo for trespass after a Sept 6 vandalism incident in the 6900 block of W 22nd Ave in Kennewick, where officers discovered gang graffiti and seized a blue SUV for further investigation.  KEPR TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Franklin County Sheriff's Office announced extra patrols to curb littering at Juniper Dunes—a 4,000-acre area popular with local residents that saw a rise in trash last week. Officers said they will enforce warnings and fines for anyone leaving behind litter.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Kennewick is negotiating a 10-year waste contract extension with WM to maintain solid waste and recycling services after the current contract ends on December 31 — the proposal revises the recycling program with a 96-gallon cart every other week and ends fall leaf pickup while keeping competitive rates. The city will present the contract at a council workshop on September 9 with further talks on October 7.  FOX 41 Yakima
