- ➤ Five jet skiers stranded on the Columbia River were rescued by Benton County sheriff’s deputies and the Richland Fire Department on Sunday—two jet skis got stuck on a sandbar near Bateman Island and a drone helped locate the group. NBC Tri-Cities

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Hispanic Academic Achievers Program gave awards and scholarships to Hispanic students from 4th grade through high school in our area to help them succeed in school. The nonprofit—now recognizing over 6000 students each year from the Tri-Cities and nearby areas after starting with 280 recipients 36 years ago—will offer scholarships for the 2025-26 school year later this fall. - ➤ Benton-Franklin Health District warns that algae mats along the Columbia River at Howard Amon Park in Richland have cyanotoxin levels 20 times higher than normal—posing serious health risks to pets and people.
