  • The Richland School District Community-Based Transition Center started Food Four Thought to help families by delivering 10 meals each week—students learn to prepare food and gain practical skills as the program partners with Grocery Outlet on Queensgate and currently helps 50 to 60 people.  Apple Valley News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The WA State Paid Family Medical Leave program faces rising deficits as increased use and new tax rules strain its funds—experts predict it will have a $26 million gap by 2026 and a $353 million shortfall by 2029.  The KEY
  • Kennewick passed a new ordinance on September 16 that bans cut-throughs in parking lots to improve road safety, and drivers who break the rule may face a $250 fine. Police official Isaac Merkl said the focus is on education while addressing the community's safety concerns at key intersections (Gage Boulevard and Steptoe Street).  NBC Tri-Cities

  • Ross Colquhoun woke his wife Mary E. Brunkow on October 7 at 9:34 a.m. to tell her she won a Nobel Prize in medicine for research on how the immune system defends against germs instead of attacking the body—she was one of three scientists honored for the discovery.  FOX 41 Yakima
