COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Gesa Carousel of Dreams will host the 34th annual Harvest Bazaar at the Numerica Pavilion (October 10 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and October 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), where nearly 90 vendors will offer handcrafted decor, jewelry, food and more to raise funds for the carousel.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Kennewick Firefighter Garrett Trappett was recognized for finding a missing 77-year-old neighbor with dementia after he searched on his own following a dispatch call. He found the injured woman near a fence line, carried her up a hill to an ambulance—he later received the Citizen Service Award for his actions.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • United Way of Benton and Franklin Counties received a $5K grant from Mentor Washington to support its Attendance Matters program—this funding is expected to improve student attendance in the area.  NBC Tri-Cities

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire ignited at Rattlesnake Ridge in Benton City on October 8 grew to 118 acres after Benton County Fire District #2 and partner agencies responded following a 2:27 p.m. alert—officials continue to investigate its cause.  FOX 41 Yakima

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mark Twain Elementary in Pasco received a $1,919 grant from the American Heart Association on Oct. 8 to buy new physical education equipment and boost its fitness program—one of fewer than 70 schools to earn the Kids Heart Challenge award—according to a PE teacher.  KEPR TV
  • The Kennewick School District hosted a safety summit Tuesday night at the Kamiakin High School library to address concerns over an online threat made last month—more than 100 staff, parents and community members attended the event.  Apple Valley News Now

  • The City of Pasco announced that irrigation season will end October 13 — residents are asked to conserve water used in sprinklers and gardens as water conservation becomes a focus.  NBC Tri-Cities
