COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Three 2-month-old kittens rescued from bushes in Pasco are scheduled for neuter surgery and will be adoptable the day after the procedure—available to meet Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM at Tri-Cities Animal Services at 1311 South 18th Avenue with a $50 adoption fee.  The KEY
  • The Arc of Tri-Cities has helped people with intellectual and developmental disabilities for over 60 years in Kennewick, Pasco and Richland. The nonprofit offers 18 programs and uses 2,000 volunteers as it looks for expansion partners to meet growing community needs—an effort to serve more families.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Pasco officials released a final park design for Peanuts Park North and are asking for community input by November 13 through an online survey or in person at a park board meeting at 6 p.m. on that day — the plan includes spaces for basketball, pickleball, soccer, ice skating, public art, food trucks and play areas for kids.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Tri-Cities Animal Services in Pasco now has three two-month-old kittens called The Chris's waiting for their neuter surgery so they will be ready for adoption the day after—rescued from bushes near an apartment complex, they come with a $50 fee and current vaccines.  NewsTalk 870

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A plane unexpectedly landed in the Yakima River near Prosser on November 7th, and police reported no issues after inspecting the water-landing aircraft — officials have yet to explain why it landed in the river.  FOX 41 Yakima

CULTURE NEWS

  • Custer’s Christmas Arts and Crafts Show is returning to the Hapo Center in Pasco—featuring over 150 booths with handmade crafts, fine art, and specialty foods. The annual event has a 30-year tradition in Pasco and a 50-year run in Spokane—bringing together both long-time and new local artists for a festive seasonal celebration.  FOX 41 Yakima

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • WA State Department of Agriculture reported that Japanese beetles have spread rapidly in the Col. Basin and Yak Valley with three times more beetles trapped in Outlook, Grandview, Sunnyside and valley areas than in 2024—Pasco counts rose from 410 to 2,407 and only 44% of affected landowners approved free non-lethal chemical treatments. The beetles can eat over 300 types of plants including crops, garden plants and grasses.  The KEY

  • Benton County introduced a new online tool that lets residents analyze property tax changes and view key data such as tax value, land plot size, and median residential sales price—this tool, nearly five years in the making with an Irish tech firm, is available on the county website.  KEPR TV
  • The Washington State Department of Ecology is creating the Columbia River Drought Insurance Program to help about 400 water-right holders keep their irrigation running during droughts + the plan is voluntary with no premiums. Officials are taking public input until early next year so the program can be ready by spring to protect water access.  FOX 41 Yakima

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers reported Friday, November 7 that women with advanced breast cancer now live six to seven months longer than a decade ago because of better treatments and care — the study of over 60,000 patients showed significant gains for HER2+ and hormone receptor–positive cancers, while improvements for triple negative cases were smaller.  FOX 41 Yakima
