- ➤ More than 30 veteran residents were honored at Brookdale Canyon Lakes on Veterans Day—staff presented certificates and displayed children’s drawings. The senior living center celebrated those who served and will continue to honor fallen members on Memorial Day. Apple Valley News Now
- ➤ Pasco's Memorial Aquatic Park will soon add an inflatable dome over its pool so swimmers can enjoy year-round use even in winter. The city council approved the project with bonds and grants and will announce an opening date soon. The KEY
- ➤ Hundreds gathered at Columbia Park's Regional Veterans Memorial on Veterans Day to honor military service with a flag raising, a 21-gun salute, and the display of a 40-foot granite pillar — retired Army veteran Tobaski Snipes attended his first ceremony while city councilmember Jason McShane reflected on the sacrifice of those who served. - ➤ Downtown Kennewick's Historic Downtown Kennewick Partnership launched a holiday shopping campaign to support more than 130 local businesses. The campaign begins with 'That's the Ticket' on November 15 and continues with Plaid Friday and Small Business Saturday on November 29—shoppers wearing plaid will get special incentives—as downtown merchants host family-friendly events. - ➤ The Gallery at the Park in Richland has shown art and told its long past as a home, boarding house, library, and more — Bob Allen of the Allied Arts Association shared this history. - ➤ Construction work on George Washington Way caused lane closures on Tuesday and is affecting drivers today with the northbound left-turn lane and a southbound lane closed for curb replacement, forcing motorists to use detours via Comstock Street to Goethals Drive. Overnight work will be scheduled from 10 pm to 5 am tonight with flagger control—drivers should plan extra time for delays. KONA
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A recent study of over 700 middle-aged women found that those with larger waist—to—hip ratios performed worse on tests of visual attention and memory over four years, suggesting that excess abdominal fat may raise the risk of dementia.
