  • Today, Gesa Credit Union was awarded by the Go-West Associations Member program for its high school Credit Union program that trains students in 24 branches—giving them roles as tellers, marketers and peer financial educators. Brandon Allison, Vice President of Community Impact, said the honor marks 25 years of teaching thousands of students to manage money.  KEPR TV
  • Regional police and fire departments will play a charity hockey game on November 15th at Toyota Center with doors opening at 3:40 p.m. and puck drop at 4:05 p.m.—a follow-up game between Tri-City Americans and Penticton Vees at 6:05 p.m. will raise funds for the FOP memorial fund and Tri-City Chaplain Services Network.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • The Kennewick Fire Department partnered with the American Red Cross — installing 106 smoke alarms in 31 homes at the Sun Meadows Mobile Home Community yesterday during their Smoke Alarm Day of Action.  FOX 41 Yakima

  • Retailers have begun early Black Friday sales with discounts on toys, TVs, and kitchen gadgets available now, while official deals start on November 28 — experts advise shoppers to check model details and shop imported items early to avoid higher prices.   • For more than 20 years, the Senske Holiday Light Show delighted Tri-Cities families with over 500,000 lights and a festive soundtrack. Senske announced the show is canceled permanently and advised residents to visit Richland’s Winter Wonderland instead.  The KEY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents at Tri-Cities RV Park in Kennewick continue to face unsafe and unsanitary conditions with reports of broken facilities, a single working shower and toilet for over 100 people, and growing worries after a fatal fire on November 12th, 2022 (which claimed a young girl's life). On February 27th, 2024, the Attorney General's Office issued a notice of violation and a consent decree with fines exceeding $900,000 (total penalties surpassed $1 million), yet tenants say little has improved since the park was sold in 2019.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Pasco residents may soon get a letter about their water line materials as the EPA requires cities to notify homeowners when the pipe type is unknown—public works crews have inspected about 75% of homes and found pipes made of safe materials, not lead. The city will send updates annually until every home is confirmed.  FOX 41 Yakima

HEALTH NEWS

  • On November 12, a study found that metformin reduced the benefits of exercise as patients taking the drug showed less improvement in blood pressure, fitness, and blood sugar control. Researchers from Rutgers and Johns Hopkins said patients should check with their doctor about combining exercise with metformin — the findings may lead to updated treatment guidelines.  FOX 41 Yakima
