  • At Fairchild Cinemas in Richland, a Giving Machine now offers donations to local and global charities with a simple card swipe—providing options like meals, winter clothing and clean water until December 10.   • Susan Mendenhall — franchisee of Kennewick and Pasco IHOP restaurants — was awarded the 2024 IHOP Franchisee of the Year on November 21, making her the first to earn the honor three times.   • Zach Top, the CMA award-winning artist from Sunnyside, will perform homecoming shows at Toyota Center in Kennewick today and tomorrow. Tickets will cost $25 and be available at the cashless box office starting at 12 p.m.—supplies are limited.  KONA

  • Pasco School District Superintendent Michelle Whitney was named Washington State Superintendent of the Year for 2026 at WASA’s Fall Superintendent Component meeting in Seattle — she earned the honor for her commitment to educational equity and community partnerships and has led the district since 2016.  Apple Valley News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On November 21, the Pasco Fire Department became the first to join the Ecology program to safely remove over 140 gallons of toxic aqueous film-forming foam — a PFAS hazard linked to groundwater contamination. The foam was shipped to Utah for incineration, and other fire departments have been encouraged to join the disposal program.  FOX 41 Yakima

  • Kadlec now offers a new contrast-enhanced mammography system that uses an iodine dye to help detect breast cancer earlier. The $150,000 system—funded by local donors through events like Speck Family Motors’ Drive for a Cure—is available for patients referred by their physician.  KEPR TV
  • Washington residents should check their pantries for recalled jam products—Tops Mixed Fruit Jam and Tops Strawberry Jam batch #4F1101 with a best before date of October 6th, 2026—as these items from Mangalm LLC contain the unapproved additive carmoisine that may pose health risks.   • The Tri-Cities Prep Jaguars remain undefeated and will host Liberty Bell High School today in the state quarterfinals after scoring at least 50 points in 10 of 11 games this season.
