  • Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels is fulfilling over 375 holiday wish lists for homebound seniors in the Tri-Cities by using gifts donated through Amazon wish lists and community drop-offs—volunteers will deliver the presents throughout December so many seniors receive their only Christmas gift.  Apple Valley News Now
  • A Kennewick youth center will receive a seven-passenger van donated by Ben Franklin Transit through its Van-Me-Down program to support individuals aged 16 to 24 seeking education or work. The keys will be handed over at T-C Futures' office later today before CEO Thomas Drozt gives his keynote speech at the graduation ceremony.  NBC Tri-Cities

  • Holiday shoppers in Kennewick have fallen prey to online scams after local resident Kyle Beus lost money on fake Christmas lights from an unknown website—consumer experts say the Better Business Bureau advises buyers to check that websites use https and have no spelling errors before purchasing.  Apple Valley News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Richland Fire Department received an $8,200 grant from the Dickey Foundation to improve emergency response in the Tri-Cities. The grant will buy new tools (two high-power battery saw bundles) and extra equipment (two diamond Priya blades) that help firefighters during emergencies.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Washington state officials warned locals of charity scams as Giving Tuesday nears and urged residents to check charities by asking for identification and using secure payment methods. The Attorney General’s Office is hosting free educational sessions today at WorkSource Columbia Basin—3:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.—with a Spanish webinar at 6:30 p.m.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Snowplows clear roads in winter and officials advise drivers to slow down, keep extra room, and avoid passing them — actions that help prevent dangerous conditions. There is no law against passing a snowplow, but giving operators plenty of room is strongly recommended.  KONA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Providence Health and Services will lay off 57 employees statewide early next year; the cuts include two positions each at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland and Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. The layoffs will take effect January 20 and come as the system faces rising labor and supply costs (and deep cuts to Medicaid and safety-net programs) to help ensure long-term care.  KEPR TV
  • Heidi Morrison from Trios Health in Kennewick received a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses on December 1—an honor for nurses who show exceptional care, and she was nominated by a patient's family after joining the medical-surgical team in April 2023.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • Kennewick nurse Heidi Morrison from Trios Health was selected for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for her exceptional care of patients and their families. Nominated by a patient’s relative, she has been on the medical-surgical team since April 2023 — the award honors her compassion and clinical excellence.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Researchers at King's College London tested a monthly injection called tezepelumab on over 300 severe asthma patients in a yearlong trial at 68 centers in 11 countries and found that 90% reduced their daily steroids while half stopped pills entirely—two-thirds also saw their asthma attacks disappear.  FOX 41 Yakima
