COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Kennewick bars—including Blackthorne Neighborhood Pub, Parkade Bar and Grill and The Sports Page Bar and Grill—voted today to donate the proceeds from the St. Paddy's pub crawl to Tumbleweed Cat Rescue.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Anne McCartney (from Tumbleweed Cat Rescue) said the group helps cats with adoption challenges find homes and that the yearly downtown pub crawl boosts support for their rescue efforts every year.  NBC Tri-Cities

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash on northbound US 395 involved two cars, caused minor injuries and blocked the left lane—delaying drivers, officials said on March 14th, 2025.  FOX 41 Yakima

CRIME NEWS

  • A Pasco man, Socorro Jesus Lopez-Spindola — owner of Classic Towing and Recovery and already convicted of multiple crimes, was charged with felony firearm possession on March 14 after police found a loaded .22 revolver during a November 2024 search and faces further investigation for robbery, extortion and death threats as part of Operation Take Back America.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • On Thursday afternoon, Kennewick police responded to two calls when 46-year-old Joshua Alexander, suspected of overdosing and taken to TRIOS Hospital, became combative and assaulted a paramedic—officers then placed him in a WRAP restraint system and charged him with four counts including assault and interfering with a medical facility.  KONA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Richland School District fired a substitute teacher after reports that the teacher gave three Nazi salutes during a class at Richland High School—parents reported the behavior prompting an investigation—and district officials confirmed the act violated school policy.  Apple Valley News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The UCLA Voting Rights Project has sent a formal notice to the Port of Pasco alleging that its at-large voting system violates the Washington Voting Rights Act by limiting the voting power of Latino communities who make up nearly 42% of the region’s voters. The Port has 90 days to respond as officials gather information for further discussion—attorneys claim that a district-based system would offer fairer representation.  KEPR TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers from the University of Vienna scanned the brains of 49 volunteers who received electric shocks while viewing natural landscapes or city scenes. The study in Nature Communications showed that looking at nature reduced pain and lowered activity in brain areas that sense pain — a finding that could guide future virtual pain relief treatments.  FOX 41 Yakima
