- ➤ Richland's 10-year-old Nirbhuy Arun and 11-year-old Alexis Nicholson were named winners of the 2024 Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes for their work with Kids for Urban Trees, which has planted over 300 trees in Eastern Washington to cool playgrounds and low-income areas. They worked with the Benton-Franklin Health District to plant shade trees near schools + they plan to use their award funds for college education and further environmental outreach. FOX 41 Yakima

- ➤ Ben Franklin Transit offered free bus rides on Earth Day and honored school bus drivers on April 22nd while introducing two new electric 40-foot buses that require revised route planning to address their taller design—Route 170 remains exempt for its longer trips.
