ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A collision on W. Yellowstone Ave and N. Edison St damaged traffic lights—patrol officers managed traffic while the streets department headed to repair the lights and advised drivers to use alternate routes with no injuries reported.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • A collision on W. Yellowstone Ave and N. Edison St caused damage to traffic lights on April 25th; patrol officers helped control traffic and no injuries were reported. The city streets department is working on repairs — KPD advises drivers to use alternate routes.  FOX 41 Yakima

BUSINESS NEWS

  • D's Wicked Cider closed its doors permanently because rising agricultural costs made it too hard to keep operating — the last pint will be sold tomorrow night and owner Daniel Washam will move back to Tennessee to ranch cattle.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Elizabeth Murphy Burns, who led Morgan Murphy Media for 43 years, died at 79. She stepped down as CEO last month and named her stepson Brian Burns to lead the company — which now includes TV stations, radio, and a magazine.  Apple Valley News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Kennewick Police and the School District issued a warning about minibikes that are causing problems on roads and sidewalks, after one rider was hurt trying to elude police on Clearwater Ave and another had a minor fender-bender on the Blue Bridge—reminding citizens that these bikes are not street-legal and must only be used on private property.  KONA
  • Kennewick police arrested a 49-year-old man at the Southridge Sports Complex on April 25th after he allegedly attacked someone and bit an officer’s shoe during his arrest—he now faces charges of third and fourth degree assault and resisting arrest.  FOX 41 Yakima
  • Jason Tanner (56) was sentenced to 140 months in prison by Benton County for firing a shot at deputies during his March 7 arrest attempt at a travel trailer when he refused to surrender; authorities said no one was injured.  NBC Tri-Cities

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jonathan Miller, a band teacher at Kennewick High School, was awarded April's Classroom Makeover from WaFd Bank and said he hopes his classroom continues to serve as a welcoming home base where students learn music and important life skills (including all band and orchestra classes). The award was selected by community nominations for educators dedicated to student success.  NBC Tri-Cities

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, WSDOT honored 61 workers killed in work zones since 1950 with a memorial where family, friends and former coworkers gathered to remember loved ones and share stories. The event featured tributes with names honored on cones (including Sam Williams) while the agency urged drivers to focus on safety in work zones.  NewsTalk 870
