ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Richland police responded at 6:53 a.m. on April 30 when a vehicle making a left turn on Venus Circle caused a motorcycle to crash on Gage Boulevard, closing the westbound lanes from Bellerive Drive to Venus Circle and sending the injured rider to a nearby hospital—authorities are still investigating the incident.  FOX 41 Yakima

  • Jumping Around Party Rentals, owned by Pablo Romero, has rented bounce houses, waterslides and obstacle courses in the Tri-Cities area for 12 years. The local business makes party planning easier by delivering equipment and not requiring deposits for most residential events — bookings can be made online or through social media.  FOX 41 Yakima

CRIME NEWS

  • Kennewick police responded Tuesday to a collision at West Deschutes Avenue and North Kellogg Street where a city light pole and a Benton PUD electrical pole were struck, and a female driver who sustained minor injuries was detained on probable cause of DUI.  The KEY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Washington State University Tri-Cities will hold its commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 3 at the Toyota Center starting at 1:00 p.m. Over 300 graduates will participate and Michelle Whitney will deliver the keynote address + Chancellor Sandra D. Haynes and Vice Chancellor Kathleen McAteer are scheduled to speak.  NBC Tri-Cities
  • Washington State University Tri-Cities will hold a commencement ceremony at the Toyota Center in Kennewick at 1 p.m. May 3 for over 300 graduates, including 26 master’s and 18 doctoral candidates, and Michelle Whitney will serve as the keynote speaker while doors open at noon with a clear bag policy in effect.  Tri-Cities Business News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nearly 5,300 state and community college workers will not receive a 3% pay raise in July because their union ratified the contract late—union leaders say missing the raise will worsen the gap with rising costs. They will explore other funding options and plan to resume contract talks before the October 1 deadline.  Tri-Cities Business News
  • A local driver said the stretch of 395 near the Yelm street light creates confusing traffic with changing speed limits and tailgating when vehicles merge near a church. He noted a roundabout near Queensgate worked well & urged state officials to study similar improvements for the area.  NewsTalk 870

  • A new study found that nurses who wash uniforms at home may be spreading hospital superbugs since home washing machines did not fully remove antibiotic-resistant bacteria—this failure could raise the risk of hospital-acquired infections and prompt a move to industrial laundering in hospitals.  FOX 41 Yakima
