- ➤ Carlos E. Rodriguez, a 46-year-old from Pasco, died while handcuffed in a Kennewick patrol car on Thursday when officers administered Narcan after he stopped responding during his arrest near Canal Drive and Crosswinds Boulevard—Benton County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. - ➤ The Department of Education is investigating OSPI for possible Title IX violations after Kennewick and other districts reported issues with allowing male athletes in girls' sports—OSPI said it would follow state law until federal rules change. - ➤ Governor Bob Ferguson directed state agency facilities to lower flags to half-staff — honoring three Western Washington firefighters (Alvin D. Vaughn, Dean G. - ➤ Officials at Hanford revealed plans for a new facility to treat mixed low-level radioactive waste on site—contact-handled waste will later be shipped to New Mexico for storage. Studies from last November confirmed safety standards, and bidding for a site will begin later this year with more public comment meetings planned. NBC Tri-Cities
- ➤ In 2024, DOE officials at Hanford said a test separated 2,000 gallons of waste into low and high levels and grouted the lower waste, a step that could save billions and speed up cleaning the tanks. - ➤ Local residents must secure a Real ID-compliant license to fly domestically by May 7 as DMV offices see a surge in appointments and fees can reach up to $56.
