- ➤ Kennewick will host memorial events on September 11 at the 9/11 World Trade Center Memorial at Southridge Sports and Events Complex to honor lives lost 24 years ago. The ceremonies will run from 6:30 to 10:45 a.m.—featuring the presentation of colors, national anthem, and guard changes every half hour while displaying a unique piece of World Trade Center steel. - ➤ A thunderstorm on September 9 sent Franklin County Fire District #3 crews to nine lightning-related calls, including a 33-acre stubble field fire near Pasco Kahlotus Road and Murphy Road that was contained by 9:40 p.m.—crews also managed additional calls in Walla Walla County. FOX 41 Yakima

- ➤ Columbia Basin College celebrated its 70th anniversary on September 8 by renaming the Social Sciences and World Languages Building after former president Dr. Richard Cummins—acknowledging his commitment to student success. - ➤ The U.S. Department of Energy has selected a number of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory projects in Richland to get part of $35 million in federal funding along with more than $21 million from partners.
