  • Kennewick residents gathered at Southridge Sports Complex on September 11th to honor 9/11 by unveiling a monument made of over 30 feet of steel from the World Trade Center—local officials said it stands as a lasting symbol of unity and American resilience.  FOX 41 Yakima

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hogback Canal Drive LLC completed construction on a 14,020-square-foot mixed-use complex at 6821 W. Canal Drive anchored by Panera Bread in Kennewick. The building houses MultiCare Indigo Urgent Care and includes one vacant 1,334-square-foot suite while tenant build-out is underway and the $5.3 million project—developed by Hogback Development Co. and Stephens & Sons Construction with design support from Evolv Design Collective—had its shell finished in spring.  Tri-Cities Business News
  • The Tri-Cities Regional Chamber of Commerce will host its Women in Business Conference on September 23 at the Three Rivers Convention Center with 1,000 expected participants, 15 breakout sessions, and an ATHENA awards luncheon to honor female leaders—speakers will address topics from goal setting to managing workplace anxiety.  Tri-Cities Business News
  • Talos Tactical in West Richland has suffered a downturn since the governor signed House Bill 1240 2.5 years ago that banned many gun items, causing owner Matt Cieslar to see 80% of his inventory banned and staff drop from 10 to four. He said that only one product was profitable in 26 months and worries that future laws requiring training may further hurt Washington’s firearm industry — a trend that could limit choices for buyers.  KEPR TV
  • Kennewick entrepreneur Kara Vogt leads four businesses including Village Bistro, d’lynne’s boutique, Eatz Pizzeria, and Barracuda Coffee—while also flipping properties in partnership with her parents.   • A1 Hospitality will complete Flight Path Plaza—a mixed-use retail center with 24,000 square feet spread across four modern buildings—this fall near the Tri-Cities Airport at 2915 N. 20th Ave in Pasco, with LCR Construction as the general contractor and Kennewick-based Draftco Designs handling the design while rents are set from $28 to $32 per square foot.  Tri-Cities Business News
  • Shrimpin Ain't EZ, a Kennewick aquarium shop at 120 Vista Way, is moving to a new 2,000-square-foot space to offer more freshwater plants, shrimp, fish and cleaning services — meeting strong demand in the Tri-Cities area. Owner Thomas Dobbins said the store will open by Oct. 1 and plan to add themed rooms and classes for local customers.  Tri-Cities Business News

  • PNNL began voluntary separation options in mid-August after federal spending cuts were announced—former employee Dan Howe and staff remain worried that if enough do not opt in before Sept. 5, further involuntary layoffs will follow.  Tri-Cities Business News
  • PNNL in Richland started layoffs after staff were asked to volunteer for job cuts because uncertain federal budgets forced a reduction of 90 positions—raising worries that skilled scientists may leave and important research programs could be weakened. Researchers and students say these actions risk both local jobs and national scientific progress.  Tri-Cities Business News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gesa Credit Union's student-run branch program—now in its 25th year—gives high school students real financial training by teaching them how to handle transactions and open checking accounts. Six new branches will open by the end of the school year, including one built into Sageview High School.  Tri-Cities Business News

FINANCE NEWS

  • Tri-CU launched a new dragon-themed Treasure Trove program to help kids learn to save money; the program at 3213 W. 19th Ave. — linked with Southgate Elementary — gives free piggy banks, coin machines and treasure tracker cards with prizes when deposits are made, and it offers 5% interest on the first $500 while already enrolling over 100 kids since mid-August.  Tri-Cities Business News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After a record-setting fair that drew over 120,000 visitors, the fair board is reviewing a new lease with county commissioners — the proposal would cut the fair’s use time and add fees while requiring extra benefits such as free tickets and sponsor seating. The board must decide by the end of September as county officials plan to use local funds to improve McDaniel Arena for future events.  Tri-Cities Business News
  • On June 30, the Port of Kennewick finished phase one of the Vista Field Southern Gateway project at 6708 W. Deschutes Ave. in Kennewick—this $3.05 million project converted two airplane hangars into 4,500-square-foot open-air pavilions, added two 412-square-foot bathroom buildings and a 3,200-square-foot courtyard with a stage, and it will host public events once parking is completed.  Tri-Cities Business News
