- ➤ A Kennewick woman, Linda Lunde, won $100,000 in cash from Banner Bank’s Dream Big Sweepstakes on Sept. 29, making her the first Washington winner in the three-year contest where only two entries were needed among over 680,000; when the bank called her, she thought it was a scam + confirmed her win in person. Lunde, a 41-year customer, and her husband plan a month-long trip to Arizona to visit family and use the rest of the money carefully. Tri-Cities Business News
- ➤ Richland nonprofit SIGN Fracture Care International has upgraded its manufacturing process by adding an advanced OKK machine—paired with its Tornos machine—to boost production capacity from 30,000 to 51,000 nails yearly. This change prepares the organization to meet growing demand for metal orthopedic implants to help more patients. Tri-Cities Business News
- ➤ Lamb Weston pulled its shuttered Connell plant off the market and will invest $6.4 million in wastewater improvements at its Pasco plant on Glade Road—no new jobs will be added. - ➤ Framatome began a $7 million expansion at its Richland nuclear fuel facility in July to add a two-story storage area — with room for 200 fuel assemblies — as demand for nuclear energy grows. - ➤ The Tri-Cities’ second Summer’s Hub location will open Nov. 1 in Pasco at 6120 Burden Blvd in the Gesa Stadium parking lot, and it is anchored by Brady’s Brats & Burgers. The 5,000-square-foot building will offer indoor seating, restrooms, and outdoor seating + host live concerts and community events while providing space for 26 food trucks with leases starting at $1,850 a month at a $4 million total cost. - ➤ Jeff Schreiner and Jason Patterson of It’s Alive Productions have turned the Public Market at Columbia River Warehouse into a haunted attraction for October with a multi-room experience called Pure Evil and three five-minute escape rooms—this event is open on weekend nights from 7–10:30 p.m. at 10 E. Bruneau Ave. in Kennewick and will also feature local bands along with a Halloween car show on Oct 24. Tri-Cities Business News
- ➤ Local watercolor artist Chris Walling paints scenes of Tri-City landmarks such as Kennewick’s Texas Roadhouse and Richland’s Art in the Park to support her commission work and pay her Visa bill. She works in public spots (like Denny’s and Starbucks) to stay focused and each piece takes up to 80 hours with 10 layers (a method she uses for precision) before being sold as prints and magnets at local events. - ➤ A Dutch company, SkyNRG Americas, cleared a key regulatory hurdle from the state Department of Ecology for its sustainable aviation fuel facility southeast of the Tri-Cities, moving the project closer to meeting strict air, water and habitat guidelines. The facility will produce an estimated 50 million gallons of fuel a year and create up to 600 construction jobs & 100 permanent positions when production begins in 2029. Tri-Cities Business News

- ➤ Jessica Beck, a Kennewick mother with a lifelong love of sewing, has turned her home-based lessons into a full-fledged sewing school at 3030 Clearwater Ave.—The school offers beginner sessions and advanced Sewciety courses for students ages 8 to high school with fall classes planned and hopes to expand class sizes from six to nine pupils. - ➤ Eastgate Elementary will host the inaugural Panther Opening Chess Tournament on October 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. & the event is expected to draw 80 to 120 K–12 students from at least 15 schools, following last spring’s successful Panther Endgame event & organizers say rising local interest is fueling the competition. - ➤ Washington State Patrol launched the One More Stop road safety program in honor of fallen Trooper Christopher Gadd—remembered for his service—who died on March 2 when an impaired driver hit him. Between September 26 and 28, law enforcement conducted patrols that led to four DUI arrests, contact with 40 aggressive drivers and 16 distracted driver observations—efforts meant to keep our roads safe. - ➤ Bill Ruzicka, a nurse practitioner, has expanded his men's clinic with a brick-and-mortar space at 400 Columbia Point Drive in Richland—doubling his clientele as more local men seek help with low testosterone. - ➤ City building officials approved permits for Bubble on Gum, an $11.2M affordable housing project of 10 buildings and 58 units in east Kennewick aimed at lower income residents earning between more than $25,000 and just under $43,000 per year.
